Maria Freidman, D.B.A., is a national expert on e-prescribing and a wide range of other health information technology (HIT) policy and implementation issues. Her consulting firm provides services related to health policy and analysis, strategic management and positioning, federal affairs, and marketing. She is a former CMS senior advisor. Dr. Freidman provided expert advice to CMS and HHS on HIPAA transactions and code sets, e-prescribing, and HIT issues, including standards, outreach, privacy, and implementation. Dr. Friedman has held many other senior positions within CMS and at the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, including serving as public affairs director for both agencies. She holds a master's degree in journalism and a doctorate in business administration, with concentrations in management and strategy.

Carolyn P. Hartley is President and CEO of Physicians EHR, Inc, a company that educates and serves as physician/clinic advocate, managing the EHR implementation process. She and her EHR project management team oversee the complex paper to paperless migration for clinics in 17 states, and also serve as EHR technical advisor to national and state medical societies and quality improvement organizations. She also served on the Technical Advisory Panel for the Health Information Security and Privacy Collaborative (HISPC), funded by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC). She is co-author of more than a dozen books on privacy, security and EHR adoption for the AMA, ADA, and specialty societies.
