Medicare’s latest look at incident-to billing rules for physical therapy services leaves many practices wondering if they are going to be able to use PTs,  PTAs or offer therapy services at all. Even if you aren’t billing Medicare, private payers are following suit so you’d better know the rules or be prepared to face audits and potential paybacks. More and more of your private payer contracts are stating that they follow Medicare policies – so you better be ready.

Any practice that provides physical therapy services will want to tune in on August 19 from 1:00 - 2.30 pm ET for an in-depth tutorial on how your practice can stay fully compliant when billing PT services. PT coding guru Margie Scalley Vaught, CPC, CPC-H, CPC-I, PCE, CCS-P, MCS-P, ACS-OR, ACS-EM will point out the key issues for your therapy coding and offering official supporting information from CMS and CPT, as well as discussing ICD-9 issues. You’ll learn:

  • Who can supervise therapy services, who can perform therapy services and how to document who, what and where
  • How to correctly document when multiple modalities are performed on the same date of service
  • How best to document your PT services now that CMS is saying it wants to see evidence that the original physician is continuing to manage the care
  • What’s the time frame for you to document the Plan of Care and Re-certification
  • What CMS classifies as ‘trained/qualified’ in physical therapy in order to render those services

Bonus: You’ll get sample documentation forms you can use right away in your practice.

You’ll come away with the OIG audit relating to PT services and details on how the agency is going to continue to monitor these codes and services.  Be prepared for a jammed packed audio which will also allow time for your questions and concerns.

Margie is recognized nationwide for her expertise in orthopedic coding – and also for her skills at putting the most complex coding and reimbursement issues in plain, easy-to-understand language. Take advantage of her knowledge and tune in – you’ll thank yourself later when you have the knowledge to file clean claims and avoid costly denials.
