"We're going to continue to look at downward [payment] adjustments as appropriate,"

Lori Anderson, CMS acting head of home health and hospice, said at NAHC's "March on Washington" meeting April 7.

So it seems that the nearly 11 percentage-point reduction in home health payments over four years that CMS wrote into the PPS revisions to offset case-mix "creep," isn’t the end of it.

As laid out in the 2008 PPS rule, CMS will repeat this year's 2.75% cut in 2009, Anderson says. However, for 2010, there could well be another downward adjustment to offset still more case-mix creep, she made clear at the same meeting. She went on to characterize any further PPS refinements as "expected to be minor" and "nothing like" the scale of this year's PPS changes. Source: Home Health Line, April 14, 2008
